2009 Challenger League

2009 Challenger League Team Photo

This year's Challenger League proved to be the best to date. Our Challenger League began three years ago and is a baseball camp designed for children with special needs. With over 40 children in attendance this year, we were able to form actual baseball teams for them to be on.

After four weeks of practice sessions where the kids learned to catch, throw, hit and run, we were able to have our Challenger League World Series game.

Thank you so much to the many volunteers who were there each week to work with the kids. We were blessed with just enough volunteers each week so that each child had their own "buddy" to work with.

Koos for Kids Donates Approximately 400 Winter Coats

Marcus making sure the coat fits one of the boys.As the seasons begin to change and the air becomes colder, it’s time to bring out the winter gear.  Koos for Kids realizes that many area kids don’t own mittens, hats, or coats to keep them warm.  For the past three years, Marcus (Koos) and special guests have provided coats to those who are less fortunate.

Koos for Kids visits area elementary and middle schools for assemblies and presents the children with new winter coats.  This year we continued the tradition and purchased approximately 400 coats and were able to once again warm the hearts of many area children during the winter months.

FEATURED CHILD

Kevin Figueroa

Kevin Figueroa

We met Kevin Figueroa in October 2007.  Kevin is 13 years old and was born with a heart defect.  On top of that, he had a cancerous brain tumor that left him diabetic and unable to grow on his own.  As a result, he has to take roughly 70 pills a week and some days he does well and others are very tough for him.  He is a very caring and thoughtful person.
