Since January of 2005, Koos for Kids has been able to help many terminally ill and disadvantaged children in Southeastern, WI.
Terminally Ill Children
Through the generosity of our local community, we have been able to help terminally ill children who spend much of their time in the hospital. We meet the families directly and are able to find out exactly what their needs are. Some of the children wanted new computers to keep up with homework and friends when they are in the hospital. Others just wanted to get away from it all and we sent them to the Dells for a weekend of quality family time. Whatever the situation, we work directly with them to make their lives just a little brighter.
Children with Special Needs
This spring we will begin our 3rd season of the Challenger League. This is a baseball league designed for children with special needs. It is open to children with any type of special need. We give each child a team shirt and hat and their very own baseball glove. This past year, we were able to create the Koos for Kids fields located at Haban Park in Sturtevant WI. We now have our very own fields to play on. Over the past 3 years we have had over 100 children as part of our league.
Disadvantaged Children
One of the ways that we have reached the disadvantaged children is through our winter coat project. Each year we select 4-5 schools and work with the school to determine which children need a new coat but aren’t able to get one due to financial reasons. We then purchase coats for them and deliver them to the schools. We have purchased over 1500 coats the past 3 years.
